Zimbabwe's succession struggles - AAME's first seminar takes place on Wednesday 18 January,

With President Mugabe's health failing, succession battles within his own party continue, while the opposition parties remain in a state of disarray. Dr Tendi is a leading expert on Zimbabwe, will explore the complexities of Zimbabwe's politics of succession.

Dr Miles Tendi is a Lecturer in African History and Politics in the Department of International Development at the University of Oxford.

He is interested in intellectuals, society and the state; the political role of African militaries; Southern African politics (especially Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Madagascar, Swaziland); and the role of regional organisations in crisis resolution in Africa.

He has published two books, Making History in Mugabe's Zimbabwe: Politics, Intellectuals and the Media and Politics, Patronage and Violence in Zimbabwe (with JoAnn McGregor and Jocelyn Alexander).

Dr Tendi is a regular contributor to the Guardian newspaper (UK) and has provided political commentary for the BBC, CNN, Sky News, Press TV, NPR Radio, amongst others.
