The Global Politics and Development Centre (formerly AAME) is part of the Department of Politics and International Relations at Royal Holloway, University of London.

Its members carry out research and teaching on urgent policy challenges in the developing world (including migration and displacement, economic and social development, conflict resolution and state-building, climate change, external debt sustainability) alongside a longstanding commitment to area studies in the non-Western world.

Between us, we study a wide range of political and policy ideas and processes across multiple developing countries; and seek to establish common themes across parts of the world that together cover more than seventy per cent of the world’s population. Our members foster a lively research culture, having published several books and running a regular seminar series.

Our PhD community is a vital part of this. Our students work on topics ranging from eco-violence in Nigeria, to wellbeing and governance in Pakistan. We welcome applications from potential students. We also have several completed PhDs from our centre.

We contribute to teaching on the Politics and International Relations degrees at Royal Holloway, and we have recently launched an MA in The Politics of Development.
